Quarry crushers: clearance and sealing decide service life

Crusher bearings run under shock load in heavy dust. Matching the bore is not enough; radial clearance and the mounting arrangement must suit the shaft temperature and fit.

Conveyor drives: stop the repeat failure

Gearbox transmissions: special execution is not a size

Gearbox specifications often call for a special execution: cage, clearance or ring design. A bearing of the same dimensions does not prove it suits the gearbox, so we check the full designation for each shaft.

Three questions we ask before confirming a FAG series

Before we confirm a FAG series, we ask about load direction, misalignment and lubrication. Your answers decide whether the listed reference is right or needs a change you approve.

01 · LOAD DIRECTION

Is the load at this position mainly radial, mainly axial, or both? Any shock loads at start-up or from the process?

WHY IT MATTERS

Combined loads point to tapered roller or angular contact designs; heavy radial and shock loads point to spherical or cylindrical roller bearings.

02 · MISALIGNMENT

Does the shaft deflect under load, or are the housings on separate frames that can move out of line?

WHY IT MATTERS

Self-aligning designs such as spherical roller bearings tolerate angular misalignment. Rigid designs in a misaligned position wear early.

03 · LUBRICATION & CLEARANCE

Grease or oil? How hot does the position run, and how much dust or water reaches it?

WHY IT MATTERS

Temperature and fit affect the internal clearance you need, such as C3 or C4. Contamination affects the seal or shield version.

How to structure a FAG overhaul list

Write one line per bearing position, with DE and NDE kept apart and every housing and sleeve on its own line. That way quantities, positions and assemblies are checked before the quote, not on site.

  1. 01Split by positionDrive end and non-drive end on separate lines, even if the reference is the same.
  2. 02Write the full designationInclude the suffix for seal, clearance and execution, not a shortened stock code.
  3. 03List mounting parts separatelyAdapter sleeves, housings and related components, each with its own quantity.
  4. 04Mark accepted alternativesAny alternative is listed separately and needs your approval.
