FAG bearing FAQ: identifying the exact designation before you request a quote

Answers for purchasing engineers, maintenance supervisors and distributor buyers sourcing FAG bearings and mounting components from Heavy Industrial Machinery Company, an authorized FAG bearing supplier serving heavy machinery users worldwide.

The two questions buyers ask first

Most FAG enquiries stall on one of two points: an incomplete designation, or an assembly split across several suppliers. Both are resolved before the quote is issued.

Which details are needed when a FAG suffix is missing?

Send everything that still identifies the bearing position: equipment model, the readable part of the FAG number, bearing location (DE or NDE), shaft and housing details, and photos of the bearing and nameplate.

  • —Equipment make, model and the bearing position on it
  • —Any visible characters, even partial, from the outer ring
  • —Original seal type and clearance, if known from previous records
  • —Adapter sleeve or housing reference used at the same position

The exact execution is confirmed with you before pricing. Any technical change from the original requires your approval.

Can bearings and mounting components be included in one enquiry?

Yes. Bearings, housings, adapter sleeves and associated mounting components can be quoted together in one enquiry, so the complete assembly is checked before it reaches site.

  • —List each mounting component on its own line with its own quantity
  • —Group lines by bearing position so DE and NDE sets stay separate
  • —Assembly completeness is confirmed before the written quote

01 / Designation & identification

How to identify the correct FAG bearing execution

A FAG bearing is identified by its full designation, including suffixes, not by its boundary dimensions alone. These answers cover the gaps most often found on maintenance lists.

Our maintenance list only shows a short stock code. Is that enough to quote?

Usually not. Internal stock codes often drop the suffix that defines seal type, clearance and execution, so two bearings with the same code can be different products. Send the stock code together with the equipment model and bearing position, and the full FAG designation is confirmed with you before the quote.

Why do clearance and seal type matter if the dimensions match?

Because internal clearance (for example C3 or C4) and sealing are part of how the bearing performs in your machine. A bearing with the wrong clearance can run hot on a heavily loaded or thermally expanding shaft. Tell us the original clearance and seal form, or the operating conditions, and we confirm the matching designation.

The equipment specification calls for a special execution. Can you match it by size?

No. Matching dimensions does not prove a bearing is suitable when a special execution is specified. Send the equipment specification or the original designation, and the exact execution is identified before quoting. If only an alternative is available, it is marked separately and needs your approval.

The nameplate is worn and the FAG number is only partly readable. What should we send?

Send clear photos of the bearing markings and nameplate, the readable characters, the equipment model and the bearing position. Partial numbers combined with the application often narrow the reference down. Identification is completed before any quote is issued.

02 / Assemblies & mounting parts

How to list bearing assemblies so nothing is missing on site

List each bearing position and each mounting component on its own line. That is the simplest way to avoid wrong quantities and incomplete assemblies at installation.

Recommended line structure for an assembly enquiry
LinePositionWhat to state
01Bearing, DEFull FAG designation incl. suffix, quantity
02Bearing, NDEFull FAG designation incl. suffix, quantity
03Adapter sleeveSleeve reference, which bearing it serves, quantity
04HousingHousing reference, which position, quantity

Should drive-end and non-drive-end bearings be listed separately?

Yes. DE and NDE bearings are often different designations, and mixing them on one line is a common cause of wrong quantities or wrong installation positions. Put each position on its own line with its own quantity, and we check the set against the equipment before quoting.

Do housings and adapter sleeves need their own line items?

Yes. Housings, adapter sleeves and other mounting components should be listed separately with their references and quantities. Buying bearings and mounting parts from different sources is how assemblies arrive incomplete; quoting them together lets us confirm the assembly is complete before you order.

03 / Genuine product & documents

Genuine FAG bearings in original Schaeffler packaging

Heavy Industrial Machinery Company is an authorized FAG bearing supplier and supplies genuine Schaeffler FAG products in original packaging with supporting documentation. The documents available for each order are confirmed at quotation stage.

Are the bearings supplied in original Schaeffler packaging?

Yes. Every order is genuine Schaeffler FAG product supplied in original Schaeffler packaging with its supporting documentation. Heavy Industrial Machinery Company works only with the FAG brand.

Which product documents can you provide?

Ask for the document list when you request the quote, and it is confirmed in writing for that order. Available documentation can differ by product, so we do not promise a fixed set in advance. If your end customer needs specific paperwork for reporting, name it in your enquiry.

What do we need for customs clearance?

Tell us the destination country, postcode and the documents your customs broker requires. Shipping documents are confirmed per order, together with the applicable shipping or tax terms on the written quote.

Are you a FAG distributor or a manufacturer?

Neither. Heavy Industrial Machinery Company is an authorized FAG bearing supplier, not a manufacturer. We focus on supplying genuine FAG bearings and the mounting components that go with them.

Have a maintenance list ready?

Send it as it is: stock codes, positions and quantities. We complete the identification first, then issue a written quote.

04 / Quotation & ordering

What a written FAG bearing quote includes

Every written quote states the product, quantity, price and conditions line by line, so purchasing and maintenance can check it against the list before ordering.

  • 01

    Designation & quantity

  • 02

    Price & currency

  • 03

Stock status & estimated lead time

  • 04

    Validity, shipping & tax terms

What is included in a written quote?

The quote lists product designation, quantity, price and currency, stock status, estimated lead time, quote validity and the applicable shipping or tax terms. It also states which product documents can actually be provided. Review specification, quantities, delivery details, payment method and terms, then place the order.

Can you offer an alternative designation?

Only if you accept alternatives, and only when clearly marked. Any alternative is shown as a separate line, and any technical change from the original designation requires your approval before ordering. Tell us in your enquiry whether alternatives are acceptable.

Do you publish a minimum order quantity or standard lead times?

No fixed figures are published. Stock status and estimated lead time are stated per line on each written quote. We handle both single emergency replacements and planned overhaul lists, so include your required delivery date in the enquiry.

05 / Shipping & receiving

Shipping documents and checks on arrival

Shipping method, dispatch timing and shipping documents are confirmed per order. On arrival, check labels, quantities and condition, and report any difference with your order number and photos.

Which shipping documents come with the order?

They are confirmed per order. After the order is placed, we agree the shipping method, dispatch timing and the shipping documents you need for your destination.

What should we check when the bearings arrive?

Check the product labels against the order, count quantities per line, and inspect the packaging and bearing condition. Do this before the parts go to the installation crew.

How are differences on receipt handled?

Contact us with the order number and photos of the labels, packaging or parts concerned. That gives us what we need to review the case directly with you.

Identification first, then the quote

Still unsure about a suffix?

Send the readable part of the FAG number, the equipment model and the bearing position. We confirm the exact execution with you before issuing a written quote for bearings and mounting components.
